With ParentPulse, single parents can feel connected, supported, and equipped to navigate the journey of parenthood with resilience and confidence.

Navigating the responsibilities of single parenthood is an isolating experience when parents face numerous challenges without a dedicated support system. The demands of work-life balance, parenting, and maintaining the family can create a significant sense of strain and isolation for single parents.

We researched and analyzed platforms with similar functionality based on our different goals to understand the different information structures and map out the tools and aspects they were missing.

To gain deeper insights into their struggles and identify their primary needs, we conducted two interviews. Based on the results from user interviews, we discussed possible solutions to the identified problems. We brainstormed features and other additions we thought could make the app better and different. Following that, we did quick sketches, information architecture and user flow.

We conducted user testing interviews with friends to obtain some feedback on the features of the product. We got some really good suggestions, which we took into account and modified the prototype.

When considering challenges single parents might face, most of the obstacles are directly connected to childcare and these are often the ones that need to be resolved the most.

Getting in touch with people who share common experiences or organizations that share similar parenting goals is helpful for single parents to relieve the pressure and learn about childcare. These resources are also good support for decision-making as a single parent.

Lack amount of time to spend with kids may further affect their mental and personality development during their growth as a parent’s companion is crucial to children’s development as a person.

How might we develop an integrated support system for single parents that empowers them to provide optimal care for their children, thereby enabling effective management of their well-being and that of their families?

Because the amount of information we provide is relatively large, we tried to make the interface look simple and organized so that users can quickly view the information they want without being overwhelmed by information.

We checked out various references, patterns, and colors. Ultimately we settled on a black, white, and green color scheme. Green symbolizes vitality and hope, and the use of white space can make the interface look cleaner and simpler.

Our final prototype was modified based on the lo-fi prototype and the feedback from the user testing. Due to factors such as time and course requirements, we have made some important features clickable.

ParentPulse is a project that seeks to address ethical approaches to collective action as a primary value. Our two-person team is dedicated to developing a platform that cultivates a supportive community for single parents, encouraging connection and advocacy for their shared needs. We aspire to create an inclusive space that goes beyond individual experiences, prioritizing the collective well-being of single parents.
